Fitness Goal: TNF100 2010.
Rico and I beat around the proverbial fitness bush
when asked if we've started training for next year's TNF100.
You heard that right!
Actually, we both wanted to sign up for the race this year,
but we clearly were not in good shape to do a 10k trail run. Scratch that.
We are not in good shape, period.
After visiting some of my favorite running blogs,
and flipping through the entries that featured this year's TNF,
I am increasingly convinced that a 10k trail run for next year is doable.
Some college friends have started training for it as well,
and because their fitness level permits it -- they're gunning for the 100k event.
If Rico and I would get pretty serious about it, maybe pushing our luck
at the 20k trail run could happen.
Or not.
That gives me an entire year to think about which trail shoe to get:
The North Face Arnuva or
Columbia's Gaia XTM.
From the looks of both, they do provide incredible support.
And, just because it looks pretty:
The Lovely TNF Windstopper.

Ending the hiatus.
This blog's been dormant for a year, or so.
I hope to pull together the pieces from the past year, to move on and forward.
Make up for time lost.
What's new? A new job, a new room, new opportunities.
Maybe this time, things will make more sense.
And I will learn to forgive.

Home. Sick.
Last Sunday, I arrived from almost my month-long
field assignment in Zamboanga.
A few days before my flight, I badgered the Manila base to
change my flight schedule from 550 pm to 725 am.
Basketball. Refer to previous posts. It sustains me.
Zamboanga was fun.
If fun meant land disputes, a protracted armed struggle,
tribal dealership and environmental damage --
then my trip was a goddamn part-ay. Hahaha.
I kid, I kid.
I arrived in Katipunan just before 10 am,
went straight to bed.
After a light nap, I woke up with a bad headcold.
Later that day my flatmates inform me that our two cats
were found doing dastardly deeds on my bed some few
days before -- a possible explanation for my headcold.
Pissed as I was at the bestial desecration of my lovely bed,
I knew the cats were not responsible for making me sick.
The 12-hour bus ride (non-aircon) from Dipolog to Zamboanga was.
Beat and spent, I've been on self-imposed hibernation since Monday.
It's raining outside and I'm high on antibiotics and Bioflu.
The aircon's on and I'm snuggled under two fluffy blankets.
Perfect.
And since I'm feeling a little indulgent and a lot lazy:

sanity check.
I've been on the road for almost a month, staying two weeks
at a time in Verde Island.
Truth is, I just got back from another stint at the community --
and in a few days (three at most), I will be leaving again.
This time, for Mindanao.
I've been terrible at keeping dates -- dinners, inumans, etc.
And I feel bad.
But the moment I come home all I can do is rest, sleep and coordinate.
The schedule is terrible. And I'm beat.
Two weeks again, in some mountain.
After Mindanao, I have a night's rest before we pull out for Verde.
I'm thankful I'm not handling Palawan.
Can you believe that?
I'm THANKFUL I'm not handling PALAWAN.
Hahaha!
All I can say is, thank God for basketball.
While out on field, friends and colleagues text me with updates.
Parker, you rock. Reich, thank you.
And I swear, those little moments keep me alive. And sane.
I saw a live basketball game recently, and for 40 minutes
I felt some normalcy creep into my life.
Screaming my heart out, jumping up and down, heckling the heckle-worthy.
Haaaylllooooovvveeeeettt.
Thank God, thank God, thank God for basketball.
When in the community, people shoot me crazy stares
whenever I pick up a basketball.
At some point, I didn't realize that a small group
had gathered to watch me shoot some hoops.
I will bring a football with me on the next trip.
Anyway.
For those who care, I'm still alive.
Just out of it.
Most of the time.

“The postmodern reply to the modern consists of recognizing
that the past, since it cannot really be destroyed,
because its destruction leads to silence,
must be revisited: but with irony, not innocently.
I think of the postmodern attitude as that of a man
who loves a very cultivated woman
and knows he cannot say to her, 'I love you madly,'
because he knows that she knows (and that she knows that he knows)
that these words have already been written by Barbara Cartland.
Still, there is a solution.
He can say,
'As Barbara Cartland would put it, I love you madly.'”
Because I know that you know, and you know that I...
All together now.
With irony.

domestication.
Very few things push me to the brink...to actually clean up my space.
Yeah, after two years -- naw, this ain't an actual room.
More like a closet, with a bed. And airconditioning.
Now back to the irritant that preceded the unwarranted tidying.
I'm under a lot of stress lately -- work, life, work.
But that's not the point.
I actually prefer that I drown obliviously in my own
little fabricated piece of reality than have
someone point out the obvious to me.
Like the bug squished flat on your windshield,
I'd rather not be fully aware of what hit me until --
well, you get the picture.
The weary have no time to mourn.
On other more happy news, Massa wins Bahrain and Kimitooodles comes in 2nd.
And holy crap, what is up with BMW man?! Kudos much!!!
Doesn't Kubica look like some sexually repressed,
sado-masochistic, soon-to-be serial killer?
On less happy news -- my financials look bleak,
is this goodbye Singapore GP 08?
I hope not.
Feeling just a little weary today.
Thank god this shampoo smells fantastic.
Long warm baths forever.
Mood: battling the crazy bug.
